With over 30 years of experience in software development and support, Doug started his career in 1989 after graduating from the University of Kansas and going to work as a system engineer for Electronic Data Systems. Over the next two decades, he worked on a variety of creative software projects and gained experience in payroll and human resources.
In 2000, Doug initiated development of his own online human resources program called HRnet—an innovative software application with a suite of tools that allowed end-user customization. By 2009, with the advent of Web 2.0 applications, HRnet was ready for a rewrite, and Doug sought help from two old friends, Chris Voorhees and Shawn Krivjansky, forming a partnership that survives to this day. Together, they built and launched the next generation of HRnet, called HRnext—a comprehensive, mobile-first HCM SaaS. That legacy of leadership and vision of innovation continues today in Doug’s work at HRnext Direct.
When Doug doesn’t have his hands on the keyboard, he is likely busy with his two children, who are truly his main passion in life. In his little gaps of free time, he enjoys reading, movies and sports, especially Nebraska Cornhuskers football and Kansas Jayhawks basketball. In life, as in sports, there is always a challenge to take on, and a victory to pursue. Go Big Red! Go Hawks!
